We are back and in one piece. At one stage there, I wasn't sure. Either we were going to kill each other or get run off the road by the maniac speed demons who drive on the motorways over here.
The Cotswolds were simply beautiful. Our Great Britain Lonely Planet guide was brilliant. It told us which towns to avoid because they were too crass and commercialised. It left us time to focus on the towns they recommended, which were just gorgeous. We drove through one of the towns they said to avoid and we could see why. Just over-hyped with shops and stuff.
NB had made meticulous directions using Google maps. We got lost. We fought like cat and dog. At one stage NB pulled over in disgust. It was on for young and old, my friends.
You want to know how the swearing went? Yeah, that. I was probably being my most ladylike for the entire weekend when NB asked my opinion on getting into a particular car space. My advice?
"You won't get in there. That spot's tighter than a nun's xxxx"
Fanny. I swear I said fanny. Ahem.
So, back to the Cotswolds. Gorgeous little villages with beautiful old homes with thatched rooves, quaint B&B's and beautiful weather. I think we both got a little bit of sunburn! It's still winter here, but the sun was shining down like nobody's business.
One thing that amazed us is how often we were getting overtaken. We were always doing the speed limit (70 mph), but without fail, we were always overtaken. There just doesn't seem to be the focus on road safety like there is back home. They still have the gruesome ads like the TAC though.
We were sad to give back our little VW Golf. It was a great little car. We had the radio cranking on the way home, with no profanity or fighting, so it was a good end to our little holiday.
Holidays next on the cards:
Tour of the south of Ireland in June
Edinburgh for the comedy festival in August
Boat cruise around the coast of Croatia in August/September to celebrate 10 years of team ianandan
Here's a little competition for the folks playing at home:
We will go stir crazy if we have to wait til June for a holiday. Who would like to pick our next weekend away? All entries will be considered. The winning entrant will have their name written up in lights and receive personalised emails about how fantastic the trip is. How can you resist?
