Padstow

We had the most amazing weekend.

It took so long to get down to Padstow, but it was so worth it.

We headed off at 6.30 am to beat the traffic. No chance. Never mind, it was a nice drive. It's not every day as you are driving along do you happen to drive past Stongehenge. We had instructed the sat nav 'fastest route by car'. This was an interesting concept. There was one point where it advised us to go straight ahead. NB refused to as it looked like someone's driveway and turned left instead. So the sat nav continually repeated 'turn around where possible' but we didn't know where to go! So, we bit the bullet and drove down the driveway.

This driveway was surrounded by a massive hedge on both sides, which was hitting both our wing mirrors as we drove along. We are driving along for a little bit and sure enough, a massive 4WD turns the bend in front of us. We look at them, they look at us. They were bigger than us, so we reversed all the way we had come. The driver gave us a friendly wave. NB then floored it so we could get through the road without having to experience that again.

We made a pact to select the 'fastest route by lorry' for the trip home to avoid any more hairy experiences!

We spent the weekend walking along the beach in the rain in the morning, then walking along the beach in the sun in the afternoon. We took the ferry to Rock, which was nice. Padstow was bustling with people for the bank holiday weekend. We toured Prideaux Place, an historic home in the old part of the town.

We ate out twice over the weekend - one was the most amazing meal and the other quite a nice meal. This is going to make us sound real bogan, but the most amazing one was the fish and chips by the sea. The nice one was Rick Stein's posh seafood restaurant. Seriously - we'd never tasted fish and chips like it.

With all that exercise and sea air, we slept like you wouldn't believe on Sunday night. A good thing too, as we left at 9.30 and got home at 4. A big drive, along with all the other truckers.
